SKREILUR

«IN COD WE TRUST» is a sayind in the north of Norway, and we do mean it.
This wind instrument is made according to the principles of a traditional farmhouse lur.
The fish's belly acts as the resonance chamber and the sounds are quite similar to the grunts of a cod defending its spawning ground.

The cod used to mean everything. Would it appear from the Arctic ocean again this winter? The people of the north where fishingpeasants and `Fish and potatoes` is our national song. We used to paint our houses with paint made of codliveroil and our furniture was put together with glue made from the skin and bones of the cod. It has been our largest export item for a thousand years all until the oil took over. Today our cod is taken by large trawlers and shipped to China because its cheaper to slaughter it there. Local fisheries are dying out and the Norwegian government has opened half of the Arctic ocean for oil drilling.

I never buy fish, but I eat my dearest friend three times a week. SKREILUR was made in 2020 from the largest cod I´ve ever caught.
